Maine Black Bears Sled Hockey Program

November 19, 2006 - Hackensack, NJ: In a continuation of the hard fought games played between the Pennsylvania Center-Pedes and the Maine Sled Hockey Pirates last season, the two teams turned in a another competitive match on Sunday morning much to the pleasure of the many fans on hand from league sponsor Prudential Financial.  Last year PA came from behind in the final minutes of the game twice against Maine, once to force a tie game, and the second time to snake out a 3 to 2 win.

This time the outcome was different with Maine scoring single goals in all 3 periods off well-executed breakouts and holding the Pedes scoreless even though PA out shot Maine by a substantial margin. The Pirates credit Jeff Labbe for their victory and are sure things would have been different had he not had the best game of his life. Labbe saved all but 1 of the 35 shots against him in the tournament and stoned the Pedes snatching their laser-like offerings with his quick glove hand and acrobatically covering anything close on the ice. Most importantly, Labz didn't give up any rebounds which the extremely speedy and mobile Pedes forwards were ready to pounce on.

The two teams are scheduled to face off again on December 17 at the Prudential Northeast Sled Hockey League Game Day in Danbury, CT. Pennsylvania is expected to have veteran Jim Leatherman, the team's emotional leader, back in uniform by then.

Final Score: Pirates 3, Center-Pedes 0.
