Maine Black Bears Sled Hockey Program

January 14, 2007 - Danbury, CT: In a scene reminiscent of last year's PNESHL League play, the United Spinal Rangers and the Maine Sled Hockey Pirates ended up in a 1-1 tie at the end of 3 periods. The tie was the first non-victory outcome for the high flying Pirates. At the end of the 1/14 Game Day the 1 point earned in the tie gave Maine a 5 point lead over their closest their competitor, the Pennsylvania Center-Pedes and a 6 point lead over the Rangers. With eight games remaining for each team in the 2007 PNESHL schedule, no lead is safe.

Maine rookie forward Bill "TinkerBill" Smith netted Maine's only goal on a shot from the left defensive zone face-off circle that he bounced off the chest of the Ranger's goalie, Dave White. Smith, a veteran recently disabled in Iraq has developed a strong physical game with solid skills and is quickly acquiring game sense. Probable future Team USA player, Nick Tedoro scored the single goal for the Rangers.

Maine had not practiced as a team since their last Game Day and the rust was obvious. The Rangers on the other hand came out hard and played an inspired game after their performance on the December 17th Game Day resulted in a team meeting in which the new Ranger's players stepped up and took the lead in forming a new team attitude. The Rangers went on to turn in a convincing victory over the Pedes later in the day.

Final Score: Pirates 1, Rangers 1.
