Maine Black Bears Sled Hockey Program

Pirate's Player/Coach Craig GrayNovember 20, 2006:  Well Team, I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't ecstatic about our 4-0 performance at the PNESHL United Spinal Tournament in Hackensack this past weekend not only on the ice, but also in the way that we came together as team off the ice. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love winning, but it is just so much sweeter to do so with a great group of friends that enjoys having a good time too. No question that Al and Ange fit into the group like they had been around for years and it sure was great to have Kip and Chris, whom we knew from our New England Bruins events with us on the Pirates too.

AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!

I think we all saw that the offensive punch we have with Kip, "Candy Andy", and Pete on one line, and Danny, Al, and Stringer on the other is something to behold. Stringer ended up the weekend with 3 goals and 3 assists…think you've found a new home Stringer? Jet did a fabulous job on defense this weekend breaking up several rushes and clearing the puck to our hungry forwards very well. He has played D before, but it's a change for him moving back on the Maine team. We appreciate your willingness to make this move Jet. It was also good to have Mini-Me on the trip with us too.

Only Labz and I would know this because Ange rode home with us, but he was talking about how great this experience was for him and it was very moving to hear him talk. I thought Ange did well for his first sled hockey completion and his 4th or 5th time on ice in total, forget just being in a sled.

I'm sure this will go down as an unforgettable weekend for Danny who got a middle to the night call from his wife that she was about to deliver and made it back to NH in 3 hours. Congratulations to Dan and Linda on the birth of their son!Pirates in Hackensack

I'd like to acknowledge the absolutely incredible performance turned in by Labz this weekend. No doubt that our new offensive strategy opened up more scoring opportunities and is attracting a lot of attention but I think the real difference this weekend was Jeff Labbe. The outcome could have easily been different if it hadn't been for the just unbelievable games Labz had against NY and PA both. You certainly had our backs Brotha.

I'm really looking forward to getting Billy, Psycho, DD, and Brother Jeff worked into the mix and we'll be joined by Doug and Debbie Park soon too I hope.

We've got 12 more PNESHL games to go and you can bet that we've got a huge target on our backs now. I expect that the other teams are going to get a lot more competitive when they get some of their players who weren't able to make it this weekend back.

It's a great start for us, but we have lot's of tough hockey games in front of us.  Let's pick them off…….one shift at a time.
